Liverpool legend John Barnes is backing Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus to succeed if he decides to leave Ajax in the upcoming transfer window for a side in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
Barnes has been in Ghana as a result of a one day football clinic organized by Standard Chartered Ghana on Saturday for children at the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) in Accra which he led.
Kudus has been garnering interest from some of Europe’s heavyweights with the likes of Liverpool, Dortmund and Newcastle reportedly interested in the Ghanaian.
This is as a result of his impressive form which dates back to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. On top of that he has enjoyed excellent displays at club level recording 18 goals and 6 assists in all competitions in the process.
In his interaction with the media at the event John Barnes was convinced Kudus is ready for the next step in his career.
“I played against Abedi Pele when I was at Liverpool in 1987 when Abedi Pele was on trial at Bayern Munich of course we remember him at Marseille but he had been going around Europe at different clubs and he had that potential”
“And of course from him you see so many Ghanaian players so nothing has really changed apart from , players now move sooner much sooner than they possibly are ready to move but he definitely has the potential to play as high a level as any of the other Ghanaian players” he added
Barnes won two league titles and two FA Cups with Liverpool FC. He was also an FA Cup runner-up with Watford, Liverpool and Newcastle United. He also played for England 79 times.
