Ghanaian Pastors Pay Nigerian Artistes More Than Ghanaians – Celestine Donkor

Celestine Donkor, a modern Ghanaian gospel singer, has disclosed that when Nigerian musicians are contracted to perform on the same stages in Ghana, their pay is substantially higher.

The celebrated singer claims that a few prominent pastors are responsible for this movement, continuously disparaging Ghanaian gospel musicians when it comes to remembering.

Celestine Donkor denounced the practise in an interview with Hitz FM, pointing out how unfair it is that Nigerians and Ghanaians pay the same amount to promote their music on streaming services like YouTube and should, therefore, receive equal compensation.

“I will not name them, but we have our big pastors. You can observe that an entire Ghanaian church only books Nigerian musicians, and when they do, they pay the Nigerians significantly more than the Ghanaians. You are struggling to make GHC 10,000 if a Nigerian is taking $10,000. In the meantime, we pay the same amount of money to promote our songs on YouTube. “We are paying in dollars, whether you are American or Nigerian,” she bemoaned.

She continued, “The advantage Nigerians have is that they’re paid better. I have been on plenty of programmes where Nigerians are, and we know how much they’re paid, and we’re paid significantly lower.”
