AMA removes illegal structures at Avenor to construct school project

 

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has removed illegal structures on a 10-acre piece of land at Avenor earmarked for the construction of a school building in the community to save children from walking long distances to attend school.

The operation, which commenced in the early hours on Wednesday, follows a voluntary agreement by the squatters to vacate the designated land after a series of engagements to pave the way for the reconstruction of the school that was demolished due to its deplorable state.

Speaking to journalists, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, emphasized the importance of reclaiming the land for the educational facility in the community stressing that the AMA was committed to providing the necessary infrastructure to ensure access to quality education for all since education was a fundamental right for every child.

She pointed out that the removal of the illegal structures was a crucial step to addressing the inadequate educational infrastructure that would ensure that all children of school-going age had access to quality education.
