FC Samartex 1996, who just won the Ghana Premier League, have decided to play their CAF Champions League games at the Accra Sports Stadium. Senior supervisor Edmund Ackah revealed on Agoro Fie on Onua television on Friday, June 28 that they have made the country’s premier arena their best option for investigation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) authorities. “Our focuses are two, Accra and Kumasi. You would need to introduce your choices and CAF comes in for assessment,” he opened up to have Alfred Takyi Mensah. “So, if they inspect the two [grounds], whichever they decide on, we will play there, but Accra is our first choice,”
He said that the newly constructed T n A Park in Tarkwa, which is home to Medeama SC, has not even been commissioned, let alone qualified for continental matches, so he denied reports that they had considered it. Mr. Ackah stated that FC Sax’s pre-season has officially begun, outlining the schedule. “We will begin on Monday, July 1.” You are aware that the CAF Champions League and the Ghana Premier League will begin in August. “Per our arrangements, the base to have for preseason will be a month and a half.” He stated that this has been communicated to all stakeholders following their break following the league victory.
FC Samartex won the 2023/24 League after amassing 61 points in total, 10 more than second-placed Accra Lions.
They won 16 out of 17 home games to annex the title, their first in history.
Their dominance at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi sparked accusations from former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Dr Nyaho Nyahi-Tamakloe that they did not win the title on merit.
The club’s General Manager was riled by the claims and insisted that they won the league on merit.
“We trained continuously during the AFCON break and you are witness that from Week 14, we were tops till after the last game.”
