Trainee nurses are advised by Opoku-Agyemang not to be influenced by the government’s incentives.”

The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, delivered a speech advising trainee nurses and midwives not to succumb to the government’s temporary inducements. She addressed students of Essiama Nursing and Midwifery Training College and Asanta SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training School at Essiama in the Ellembele Constituency during the second phase of her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang counselled the students to prioritize long-term prospects over the government’s transient enticements designed to secure votes. She referenced the challenges confronting the two Nursing and Midwifery training schools in the Ellembele Constituency, questioning the allocation of funds for essential infrastructure such as a male hostel, accommodation for lecturers, and a skills lab.

She expressed apprehension regarding potential vote-driven incentives from the government that may not address the persistent issues in these institutions. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also underscored the comprehensive approach of the Mahama administration, emphasizing not only the formulation of sound health sector policies but also substantial investments in sector transformation.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that the government of former President John Dramani Mahama upgraded and equipped various health facilities across the country. Additionally, modern hospitals were constructed to accommodate more nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.

She emphasized that the NDC prioritizes and advocates for the interests of healthcare professionals and the well-being of the people of Ghana. Furthermore, she underscored the NDC’s commitment to placing the youth at the core of its policies and recognizing and rewarding young individuals.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged the students to make an informed choice by casting their vote for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024.

Furthermore, she revisited the NDC’s accomplishments in the health sector and expressed concern about the government’s perceived failure to adequately address the healthcare needs of the Ghanaian populace.
